MSMC is a nationally-recognized and accredited 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and enhancement of Downtown Mason City.

We are currently seeking candidates for a part-time Program Assistant to provide support for program development, planning, execution of annual events, and other special projects assigned by the Program Manager and MSMC Board of Directors. 

The Program Assistant will perform a variety of administrative, technical, and professional duties while assisting in the enhancement, promotion, and preservation of Downtown Mason City. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Program Manager, Board of Directors, committees, and volunteers with the implementation of the annual work plan and program activities including but not limited to fundraising, marketing and communications, event planning, and special projects.
  • Provide general administrative support including typing, data entry, file management/organization, record keeping, proofreading, and other clerical duties.
  • Provide support with staffing the MSMC office, answering phones, and responding to inquiries and requests.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and implementation of MSMC special events.  
  • Assist with marketing and promotions initiatives; ongoing public awareness and education of the MSMC program and activities.
  • Assist with committee communications and coordination of meetings.
  • Assist with website management, content development, and updates.
  • Treat partners, volunteers, residents, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Adhere to and enforce safe work practices and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma required; some post-secondary education preferred.
  • Relevant experience in customer service, business, public relations, hospitality, retail, marketing, and communications or other relevant field is preferred.
  • Must possess a desire to project a positive image for the Main Street District, the community of Mason City, and the North Iowa Region.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and/or Google Workspace and the ability to learn other software programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to accurately gather, analyze, process, and thoroughly record information.
  • Ability to compose professional correspondence or develop reports on routine matters without close direction or supervision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Work is performed primarily indoors in an office setting. 
  • Work outdoors occasionally for special events. 
  • Frequent use of computers, office equipment, telephone, and any other pertinent supplies, space or equipment used to perform duties of this position.
  • Sit for long periods of time.
  • Stand or walk for long periods of time during events.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
  • Available to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.
  • Travel occasionally for events, meetings, etc.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and access to consistent transportation is required.
COMPENSATION:
  • Part-time with a range of 20-25 hours per week (maximum of 50 hours per pay period) / 12 months per year / some nights and weekends.
  • Wage Range: $18.25 to $21.50 per hour. Reviewed after six months of employment. Thereafter reviewed and adjusted accordingly at the beginning of the new fiscal year.
